Bringing the Inside Out: 3 Tips to Styling an Outdoor Living Space

Warmer weather is just around the corner, which also means more time spent enjoying the outdoors! Bringing the outside in, is a term we hear often about connecting our indoor living spaces to outdoor ones. Desiring a practical and beautiful living space doesn’t have to stop at the patio door. Here are 3 tips for bringing the inside out and creating a stylish outdoor living space that reflects your personal style and brings out the beauty of nature.

 One: Seating Area

Create a seating area that accentuates the things you love about the nature that surrounds you and allows for conversation amongst guests. Maybe you have a view overlooking the water or a favorite garden of wildflowers. Make sure your furniture position allows you to sit and take in the view.

Short on space, but love hosting several guests? Not all furniture has to be bulky. Grab a few oversized outdoor pillows or ottomans that can double as coffee tables for extra drinks. These pieces also allow for fun pops of patterns or color in your space.

Two: Accessorizing

Consider the color scheme you have in your house or the colors in your outdoor space. Pick a color that you’d like to carry throughout your living space and keep an eye out for pieces that incorporate it. Accessories like signs, pots for plants, and garden art are fun ways to show your personality in the space!

One of the quickest ways to bring a cozy feeling to your outdoor space is with outdoor rugs and pillows. After you’ve determined your color theme, it’s nice to mix solids and patterns together. You can pick a patterned rug and go with solid pillows or vice versa. Outdoor spaces are a fun place to take whimsical risks. Buy the accessories you may not feel willing to place in your house, but fell in love with when you saw it!

Lastly, being able to incorporate lighting in your space creates a warm feel when enjoying your space in the evening hours. You can string patio lights through a pergola, place solar powered lights throughout or simply place citronella candles in decorative containers and light them for ambiance.

Three: Nature

Though it seems obvious, finding ways to include pieces of nature in your outdoor space, seamlessly connects your outdoor living space to the nature that surrounds you.

Even though you may not have a green thumb, there are several low maintenance plants and flowers that can be potted in decorative planters throughout your outdoor living space.

If that seems overwhelming, incorporating fire or water features into your space can be another way to connect nature to your outdoor living space. Explore DIY options or the multitude of options for purchase on the market to find the one that fits you and your space perfectly.

Now all you have to do is:

Relax on your outdoor sectional listening to the cicadas in the backyard.

Admire the space you’ve created to enjoy just as much as you do the rest of your house. Remember how approachable the three steps were to curating a space to bring the inside out. Celebrate the fact that you seamlessly connected your house to the nature that surrounds you.
